BREAK

I have finished my first term of medical school, all 23.5 credits. I am very happy to announce that I did not FLUNK OUT. I was planning on a relaxing two week break. Boy was I wrong! First day of break Michelle had me out WORKING on the yard. Considering I haven't done any work for 10 weeks, it was in need of some love (the yard).Stupid Lawn MowerSo here in Arizona they have this thing called WINTER GRASS...Anyone heard of it? Well I had not until moving here. During the summer, cause it is SO HOT, the only thing that grows is Bermuda Grass. For those that don't know, Bermuda Grass is a weed that you mow into a flat top, and call it LAWN.
But during the winter since it cools down there is another grass that can survive and stay green through the winter.
To prepare the area for the new grass you have to cut the existing lawn down to the dirt. Then spread the seed and then cover the seed with a "Topper" (mulch/manure/fertalizer)
-------> TA-DA

We thought that we were done once everything was spread....WRONG

Other than watering 3 times a day until the grass is 3 inches long, we have to make sure it survives the attack from the BIRDS.

The morning after we spread everything, I got up around 9:00 and looked out side and found 30+ Pigeons, eating all of our seed. When we got home after church....More pigeons.

I was so mad!!! I am pretty sure they ate the whole lawn.

So come Monday, I went back to Home Depot...Wandered around for hours (you never can find anything in that store)... Got more supplies, and A LOT more topper. And came back home and spread it all again.

To make sure that history didn't repeat itself I made a few changes to the protocol.

1) I added a lot more topper (hoping to bury all of the seed so the dang birds couldn't get to it)

2) Scare Crow...

3) and GUARD STATIONS....P.S. Not a Bald Spot, just weird lighting....

My buddy Chase, helping hold down the fort,,,,

The count so far is 3 Pigeons and 6 doves......

STAY OFF OUR LAWN DANG BIRDS!!!!

On a more happy note.... It is Michelle's 26th Birthday this week. Her brother Brian and his family came over on Sunday to have a little dinner and party. We had a BBQ (we are in Phoenix it is still 85 degrees here) and had birthday cake.
